Greenbelt Festival 2009 - Perspective

One of the first things that strikes me at GB is the mornings and waking up with another 20,000 people all in the same field, its noisy but amazing. I love walking down to the main site and the view you get greeted with is beautiful.

I love to stand and watch as people find people who they have not seen since last year or that they were just not expecting to see, the look and smile on this girls face says it all.

I am not a crowd person but even the crowds have a really good buzz about them, my guess is its the mix of young and old and the great family feel that GB gives.

One of those crowd pleasers was a guy called Sway, not my kind of music but this guy knew how to please a crowd and his music was pretty well received. Supported by Acorn, LOL I mean Akon.

Someone, which is probably an army of people spend their time decorating GB with some really lovely ideas, this is probably my favourite thing to see at the festival as it adds the finishing touches, thankyou whoever you are.
The weather was pretty good this year with not a lot of rain, there did seem to be a rainbow every day tho.

One thing I REALLY do not like at GB is these things, we are encouraged not to drive to the festival because of our carbon footprint and then asked to pay £1 to drive around the site on one of these death traps. One day someone is going to get hurt and sue the trust for all it has. Does anyone do a risk assessment on this? Each year I come close to grabbing a driver who gets too close and taking out my vengeance.

On being green..... I find it difficult to be barked at to be green when they have countless 1000 watt bulbs glaring ALL day long pumping diesel fumes into the air from their generators. Sorry but it had to be said.

Another great element of GB is their ability to cater for all music tastes from Rap to Jazz its all there, even the odd crazy Jalopy band (agents of future).

Some of the music just isn't every ones taste and some is simply weird, I cant remember this guy I think he was called Duke? weird.....

The fringes of every venue was the best place to be with talented YP who have just not yet been recognised, this group of youngsters were simply awesome!

Greenbelt is not without its serious side, the Christian Aid tent was jaw dropping in its presentation of facts using only Rice!

And lastly our favourite venue, the tiny tea tent. We simply just love this place, the smells, the tea, the people and the rest.

Greenbelt 09 was amazing and I just love the whole thing, its just so relaxed and easy going. The organisers and volunteers should be congratulated on achieving something no other Christian festival has, inclusion! but hey that's just my perspective.

Sorry, but I would happily go to Greenbelt just for the chance to ride one of those golf carts.

My, how I would have love to have been there. But given that I couldn't, your photo montage richly brought me there. Brilliant perspectives!

Great images, Dennis! I'd never heard of Greenbelt before, thanks for exlaining it.
And thanks for pointing out the hypocrisy of 1000 watt bulbs!
;-) That is a huge irritation for me.

I've been going to GB since I was 12 years old, I'm now 38, and have missed two years in between. GB kept me going through some very dark times in my life. I also met my wife there, and this year took my 3 month old boy with me. Thank you for summing up GB just fine!
